WHAT WE OFFER
We understand the trust you would need to place in your legal representative. We offer the following:

SKILL
When you engage a lawyer, you need confidence that they have the skill and experience to deliver results—whether that’s securing a dismissal or acquittal, reducing penalties, or resolving your case through strategic negotiation.

At High Street Law, our barristers have successfully handled hundreds of cases across all levels of seriousness, including numerous jury trials. We bring sharp legal insight, courtroom expertise, and a results-driven approach to every matter we take on. Most importantly, we have a proven track record of achieving positive outcomes for our clients, no matter how complex or challenging the case.

HONESTY
When you're facing a difficult or uncertain situation, you need a lawyer who will be honest with you—someone who will give you clear, realistic advice about what lies ahead. At High Street Law, we don’t sugar-coat the truth. We tell you what you need to hear, not just what you may want to hear.

We believe that transparency builds trust. While we are direct in our advice, we are also deeply committed to exploring every avenue to achieve the most effective and favourable resolution to your charges. You can rely on us to be upfront, strategic, and always in your corner.
RESPONSIVENESS
When you're facing criminal charges or any matter requiring legal representation, it's natural to feel overwhelmed with questions, uncertainty, and concern. We understand that your case is not just a legal issue—it can affect every part of your life.

At High Street Law, we prioritise clear communication and genuine support. We take the time to listen, to understand what matters to you, and to respond promptly and thoroughly whenever you reach out. You can count on us to be accessible, responsive, and with you every step of the way.

EXPERIENCE
We represent clients in all courts across New Zealand. With extensive experience in the country's criminal courts and specialist tribunals, we understand the nuances and procedures of each jurisdiction—and we use that knowledge to help our clients navigate the process with confidence.

Our team has worked on thousands of cases, from routine matters to high-profile proceedings covered by the media. No matter where your case is heard or how complex it may be, we ensure you know what to expect at every stage and are equipped with strong, strategic representation throughout.
FOCUS AND DEDICATION
When your freedom, reputation, finances, and future are on the line, you need more than just legal representation—you need proven expertise. At High Street Law, our barristers have the skill, experience, and determination required to secure the best possible outcome for your case. This is what we do—and we do it well.
CLIENT CARE, FEES & INSTRUCTING SOLICITOR INFORMATION
At High Street Law, we work with both referring solicitors and clients who approach us directly. While barristers are generally required to be instructed by a solicitor, exceptions do exist, and we’re happy to discuss whether direct instruction is possible in your case under the current rules (amended from 1 July 2015).

If you do not already have a solicitor, we can recommend trusted instructing solicitors to assist with the formalities. We’re also happy to explain the process and any associated costs in more detail.

Fees and Payment

Our fees vary depending on the complexity and nature of your case. We offer:
-
Hourly rates or
-
Fixed fees (where suitable)

Both can provide certainty and transparency. We’re always happy to give you a clear estimate of the expected time and cost involved.

A retainer is generally requested at the start of your matter as security for work in progress. Fee notes are usually issued fortnightly, and we ask that invoices are paid promptly. Once the final invoice is paid, the retainer—held securely in a solicitor’s trust account—will be returned to you. Note: as barristers, we do not hold trust accounts, and your funds can only be accessed with your written consent.
Pro Bono Work

Our barristers do accept a limited number of pro bono instructions, particularly for clients who are not eligible for legal aid. These are taken on in accordance with the New Zealand Law Society’s code of ethics and subject to our current workload.

Payment methods

We aim to make payment simple and flexible. Invoices can be paid via:
-
Bank transfer, or
-
Online credit card payment

At High Street Law, we pride ourselves on honest, straightforward legal advice. We won’t just tell you what you want to hear—we’ll tell you what you need to know, and we’ll stand with you every step of the way.

Legal aid

High Street Law accepts legal aid case assignments. In the legal aid application form, you may list someone from our team as your preferred lawyer. If you intend to do this, however, please let us know in advance. Furthermore, we cannot guarantee that legal aid will approve your request for a specified lawyer.
